ANHECOMICS: Beautiful Things
"I didn't know normal felt like this."
Anhecomics (anhedonia + comics) is a series of short graphic narratives based on interviews with anonymous people who experience clinical depression. As a work of graphic medicine, Anhecomics aims to raise awareness of the realities of the condition as well as empower those also experiencing depression to find treatment that works for them. The interviews, writing, drawing, and publishing are all done by me.
For this episode, I spoke with someone about the dangers of making depression a core part of one’s identity. We also talked about finding equilibrium in life by maintaining a hopeful spirit even when in the throes of depression.

Well done! So relatable, the way depression wants you to believe it is the only truth. My chronic physical illness and limitations feed into my deep pessimism, making it harder to climb out. Life is complicated and on a good day I appreciate that.
Lovely comic. My experience of healing from cancer also involved embracing contradiction. The truth is complicated.
